Proof in practice: An outstanding ERO review

In June 2025, Otago Boys’ High School completed a highly successful Education Review Office (ERO) cycle, reflecting three years of strong progress across curriculum, teaching practice, attendance, and literacy and numeracy. ERO highlighted our positive, respectful classroom environments and the strength of relationships between staff and students. Leadership was recognised for its clear focus on using data to improve engagement, progress, and achievement, while also mentoring staff to deliver increasingly effective and engaging teaching.

The School House hostel was praised for our supportive, well-managed environment, where boarders’ wellbeing, academic progress, and co-curricular involvement are actively supported. Provision for international students was also commended, with robust systems ensuring wellbeing, engagement, and future pathways are well catered for.

The review affirmed OBHS as a school with strong leadership, high-quality teaching, and a genuine commitment to student success across all areas of school life.
