Application process

Step 1 - Prepare your application

Please include the following with your application:

  • Certified English copies of your most recent school reports
  • Results of any recent public examinations
  • A letter (minimum 150 words) about yourself, your interests, your family, and why you would like to study in New Zealand

Step 2 - Receive your offer

If your application is successful, you will receive:

  • An Offer of Place
  • An invoice for tuition and related fees
  • A handbook with important information about studying at OBHS and living in Dunedin

Step 3 - Confirm your enrolment

  • Transfer the fees to the school bank account as outlined on the invoice
  • Notify the school once payment has been made
  • Once payment is received, you will be issued a receipt.
  • Both the Offer of Place and receipt are required as part of your student visa application (if applicable).

Student visa information

Otago Boys’ High School participates in the Pathway Student Visa Scheme. Eligible students may apply for a visa covering the full duration of their enrolment (up to five years for long-term study).

Travel and medical insurance

All international students must have medical and travel insurance for the full duration of their stay in New Zealand, as required by the Code of Practice.

Otago Boys’ High School works with Uni-Care, a trusted insurance provider.

If you choose to use a different provider, you must supply a copy of the policy in English. The school will review this to ensure it meets Code of Practice requirements.

Before you arrive

Once your travel plans are confirmed, please email the International Department with your full flight details.

This allows us to confirm accommodation arrangements

We will organise airport pick-up where required

Please provide details at least two weeks before arrival

You should also read the International Student Handbook before travelling.

Important things to bring

To help you settle in smoothly, we recommend:

  • Black leather lace-up shoes (these can be more expensive in New Zealand)
  • At least three long-sleeved plain white shirts (for senior students in Years 11–13)
  • A scientific calculator
  • We also strongly recommend:
