Rowing Coaches Wanted - 2026/27 season

Head coach & support coaches

Position Overview

We are seeking experienced and motivated rowing coaches to help maintain and enhance our high-performance rowing programme.

We are looking for a head coach and support coaches to run our U15 to U18 rowing programme for the 2026/27 season.

The roles involve planning and delivering training sessions both on the water and on land, supporting athlete development, and contributing to the strong culture and reputation of Otago Boys’ High School Rowing.

You will work with a group of talented, driven boys who have clear goals for their season - building performance across the year, targeting strong results at Maadi, and, for some, pursuing rowing opportunities beyond school. They are coachable, competitive, and prepared to do the work. We are looking for coaches who can match that ambition.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in planning and delivering structured rowing programmes across junior and senior crews, incorporating technical skill development, fitness, and team cohesion
  • Lead and support crews through training and regattas, with a clear focus on building toward Maadi
  • Commit to a season-long programme and see it through with discipline and purpose
  • Foster a supportive, inclusive, and disciplined environment aligned with the school’s values and traditions
  • Set high standards and build a culture of accountability, resilience, and performance
  • Support athletes aspiring to take rowing beyond school, helping guide their development and opportunities
  • Oversee equipment and fleet management, identifying when maintenance, repair, or replacement is required and liaise with our parent committee.

You will be supported by a highly committed and capable parent committee who work hard to ensure our boys are where they need to be: Well organised, well fed, and supported with pastoral care and team management.

Preferred Skills and Attributes

  • Minimum of 2 years’ coaching experience in school or club rowing, with a strong understanding of technical and tactical aspects of the sport
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and motivational skills to engage and inspire adolescent athletes
  • Proven ability to work as a team and show resilience and discipline within a competitive environment
  • Current Safety Boat Operator qualification (or willingness to obtain one).

To apply, please send us an email outlining your experience, background, and what you feel you could bring to our rowing programme.
