Championship Glory and Unrivalled Depth: OBHS Basketball Wraps Up Another Fantastic Season
Otago Boys’ High School basketball has capped off an extraordinary Otago Secondary School season, securing championship titles across three divisions while demonstrating unmatched programme depth and participation across the region.
Grand Final Champions
Senior Blues (Senior A Champions): Reigned supreme after a hard-fought final against cross-town rivals King’s High School. This victory marks a monumental 21st championship title in 24 years, continuing the school’s long-standing dominance in the Senior A Grade. It was also the seventh title that Senior Blues coach and Old Boy, Levi Kaan, has been a part of as either a player or coach!
Senior Whites (Senior A1 Champions): Brought home the championship banner after prevailing in a fiercely contested final against Taieri College.
9 Blues (Junior A1 Champions): Completed a flawless, undefeated season by taking care of business against Trinity College in their grand final.
Programme Depth by the Numbers
Beyond the silverware, the sheer scale of participation highlights the ongoing strength of the OBHS basketball programme. A total of 159 boys represented the Hoops on the court this season across all competitive and social tiers:
Senior Excellence: OBHS was the only school with three senior teams competing in the A grades. All three finished in the top two tiers (A and A1), culminating in titles for both the Senior Blues and Senior Whites.
Junior Development: OBHS was the only school to field five junior teams across the top A grades (A, A1 and A2), headlined by the undefeated 9 Blues and the great development of our 10 Blues throughout the season.
Comprehensive Pathways: In addition to top-tier teams, OBHS fielded four teams in the B Grade (two senior and two junior) and four teams in the Social Grade (two senior and two junior), offering competitive opportunities for players at every level.
