Hostel Happenings

A polar blast has resulted in a significant amount of illness over the past two weeks.

Hostel Happenings

Influenza A has swept through the hostel, with as many as 35 boys off sick at one stage. Many have been sent home to recover. However, some boys have returned too soon, only to relapse and need to return home for further rest. This is a serious strain of influenza that can take up to three weeks for some people to fully recover from.

Parents, please do not send your sons back to the hostel until they have fully recovered. Obviously, it is essential that they are completely well, but it is equally important that we minimise the risk of infecting others within School House. Thank you for your cooperation.

The Back Road Jerseys have now been ordered from Farmlands, and we eagerly await their arrival. The next step is arranging to have them embroidered. Please message Atu Katoa for further details.

Men of the Week

Fita Kadavaki is consistently cheerful and eager to help. He is a positive and valuable member of our team.

Jiwon Moon: We appreciate how cooperative you are around the hostel and the enthusiasm you show by giving your duties your full attention. Keep it up—super effort!

Snow in the hill suburbs and treacherous road conditions on Tuesday 4 August resulted in the school being closed. Many hostel boys were delighted to have a midweek "rest day", and, of course, the opportunity to enjoy some snowball fights was an added bonus.

This Sunday, 9 August, boys have the option of catching a bus to Forsyth Barr Stadium to support the Otago Rugby team as they take on Canterbury in the Ranfurly Shield challenge at 2.00 pm.

Next Saturday, 15 August, we look forward to seeing as many of you as possible at The Law Courts Hotel, 53 Stuart Street, Dunedin, for a Hostel Parents' Catch-up. Join us for drinks and nibbles from 5.00 pm. It will be a great opportunity to socialise and make connections with fellow hostel parents. All are welcome.

Please do not hesitate to contact us with any feedback or questions.
