Powder, Passes, and Peak Performance: Year 13 Outdoor Education Ski Trip
This week, the Year 13 Outdoor Education classes have been making the most of the winter conditions at Coronet Peak.
A blustery southerly on the drive up saw the keenest students testing their skills by putting on chains, but the effort was well worth it for the fresh snow delivered on the first day.
The wind was no deterrent to the near-ideal conditions early in the week, and the boys made the most of it. By our final days, another dump of fresh powder arrived, making for some great skiing and boarding before eventually turning into whiteout conditions that pushed all but the most seasoned skiers towards the comfort of the café.
Throughout the week, the group stayed on the mountain at Joel Lodge with the Otago Ski Club, where the chairlifts were just a short walk from the front door. Sharing the lodge with local club members was a highlight; they spoke exceptionally highly of the boys and were always up for a friendly yarn. Food was on point, and even 25 hungry lads couldn't polish it all off after a long day on the slopes.
Without a doubt, this trip remains a standout highlight of the Year 13 Outdoor Education course, and we are already looking forward to heading back in 2027 with another keen group.
