Hostel Happenings

This week, we welcome our new Hostel Caretaker, Simon Tipa, who met with other staff and was kindly shown the ropes during an induction day on Wednesday.

Hostel Happenings

Huge thanks once again to our outgoing caretaker, Howie Nixon, for his loyalty and service. Simon joins us having previously worked as a caretaker at Lee Stream School and brings with him expertise in painting and decorating.

Our new drycleaning agent is Preens in South Dunedin, who will continue to provide the same services that Brocklebanks has provided us with for many years.

Boys need to drop their blazer, or any other clothing item requiring attention, into Matron before school. Preens offers a same-day service for an additional cost; otherwise, drycleaning will be returned by 4pm the following day.

They also offer a sewing and mending service, which can take up to a week depending on the nature of the repair.

Please see a pricelist attached below.

Men of the Week

Junior: Jack Turner, for having impeccable manners and being very well organised.

Senior: Xavier Connell, who is always cheerful, punctual, polite and helpful.

School House has been a little quieter this week, with many of our boys away competing at their respective secondary school tournaments. We have been excited to share news of their successes. For all sporting results, please check the relevant sporting websites.

A special mention goes to Eli Hellyer and Ryley Buchan, who were part of the OBHS Junior Basketball team that defeated Christchurch Boys’ High School 104–95 in the South Island final.

Congratulations and kudos to Ryley Buchan for scoring an impressive 74 points in a game against Mt Aspiring College. His remarkable individual score included eight three-pointers.

It is encouraging to witness the visible improvements around School House as the redevelopment continues to take shape. Thank you to everyone involved.

A reminder to all boys to keep working hard, as their practice exams will be starting soon.

  • NCEA Co-requisite Exams: Monday 7 September to Wednesday 9 September

  • Main Senior Exams: Wednesday 16 September to Friday 25 September

  • End of Term 3: Friday 25 September

A note from Matron for the boys to consider:

You don't get what you wish for;
you get what you work for.

Should you have any feedback or questions about anything, please do not hesitate to contact us. We can't help if we don't know.
