Silver Award in the NZ "My China Story" Short Video Competition
Over the weekend, Damon Jiang, a McIndoe House boy in Year 9 travelled to Christchurch to attend the New Zealand "My China Story" Short Video Competition prize-giving ceremony, organised by the Consulate General of the People's Republic of China in Christchurch.
Damon was the only boy representing the Otago region at the event.
We are very proud to share that Damon received a Silver Award, winning a smart watch for his film. When asked about his reasons for competing for this award, Damon said :
“I grew up celebrating Chinese festivals in Dunedin, which helps me stay connected to my heritage while embracing life in New Zealand. At my previous schools, I often helped Chinese international students who were still learning English. I now really enjoy supporting new students at OBHS – whether it's translating, explaining instructions, or just being a friendly face. I believe even small gestures of kindness can make a big difference to someone settling into a new country.
In the future, I hope to study technology in China, as I'm fascinated by how quickly it's advancing there and so I enjoy developing my technological skills through filmmaking. I'm proud to be both Chinese and Kiwi, and I truly believe that friendship, language, and culture can bring our two countries closer together.”
Well done Damon on this award which combines his love for his heritage with budding short video film making skills.
