This week, our 13SED class put their biomechanical learning into practice - with a slightly different context.

Biomechanical Principles Applied

Having previously explored biomechanical principles such as balance and stability, force summation, levers and projectile motion through the tennis serve, the boys used boxing to investigate how these principles work together.

Mr Dawkins highlighted that powerful movement starts with a stable base, before building force from the big muscles and using lever length to generate greater speed. The boys experimented with different punches and were able to see projectile motion in action, while also discovering that effective movement relies heavily on coordination - and sometimes slowing things down to get the technique right!

The boys started with a narrow base of support, on their tip-toes and with the punching arm not fully extended, to gradually develop their technique. They introduced greater stability, lever length and even controlled exhalation to help engage the core and produce more powerful punches.
