Hostel Men of the Term
Each term, we recognise a hostel student from each year level who has demonstrated excellence, commitment and leadership across school and hostel life.
Our Term 3 recipients have achieved some fantastic results in the classroom, on the sporting field and through their contributions to the wider school community. Congratulations to this term’s very deserving award recipients.
Year 9 – Jules Thomson
Jules has had an outstanding term, both academically and in sport. He has been part of the ‘Aspire’ programme at school for maths, as well as making the New Zealand Under-16 Ice Hockey team. A fantastic sign of things to come for this young man.
Year 10 – Ryley Buchan
Ryley has been dominating the basketball court this term, breaking records left, right and centre. Ryley now holds the Dunedin record for the most points scored in a single game and scored a whopping 74 points against Mount Aspiring College at the South Island Year 10 Tournament – a tournament OBHS went on to win. Ryley is also performing well in the classroom, adding to his all-round ability. A great term, Ryley.
Year 11 – Finn Breen
Finn is an excellent all-round student, competing strongly on the rugby field and hockey turf while maintaining a strong academic record. Finn’s leadership within his year group made him the perfect choice for this term’s award. Well done, Finn.
Year 12 – Leo Garden
In a year group filled with leadership and strong performers, Leo’s excellence in class, on the rugby field and on the hockey turf – along with being selected to attend Outward Bound over the holidays – makes him the perfect choice for this term’s award. Another great term from Leo, and we look forward to seeing his leadership continue to develop as he moves into Year 13 next year.
Year 13 – Dustin Young
Dustin’s leadership as a dorm monitor for our Year 9s in Hawthorne, combined with the excellence he displays in trapshooting, makes him an outstanding choice for this term’s award. As Dustin’s time at School House draws to a close, he continues to model a standard of excellence, displaying the great routines and habits he has built over his five years with us. Well done, Dustin.
