Hostel Happenings
There is an air of serious anticipation throughout School House as the boys channel their energy into finalising academic goals, with school exams now underway and NCEA looming.
IMPORTANT DATES
Preparations are already underway for Skippers Feast, which is scheduled for Wednesday 4 November at School House, from 5:30pm.
Senior Prizegiving: Thursday 5 November at the Regent Theatre. Boys seated by 6:45pm, with the ceremony starting at 7:00pm.
Year 13 Passing Out Ceremony: Friday 6 November.
A reminder that the hostel is closed for Labour Weekend from Saturday 24 October to Monday 26 October. Boys need to pack everything up and leave their spaces clean and tidy, as the hostel is being rented out during the holiday break.
We applaud all the rowers who have already started shaping themselves back into early-morning training sessions. It is encouraging to see a number of boys enthusiastic to challenge themselves and be part of this strong fraternity.
Parents, please remember that the school holidays are a great time for you and your boys to go through their belongings and make sure that everything is clearly named. This makes life so much easier for Carolyn in the laundry, particularly when items of clothing go astray or are being sent away for dry-cleaning. Thank you. If you're unable to sew on name tags, a Sharpie black pen is great for this task.
The school holidays are an ideal opportunity to wash duvets, pillows and underblankets, and perhaps refresh footwear too, as required.
Please make the most of the break to attend to any personal or medical matters, such as haircuts or visits to the optician. This would be appreciated, as it means much less disruption to school days once we return and settle into Term 4.
Men of the Week
Fraser Gill: Fraser continues to work hard, giving everything 100% effort. He sets high standards and keeps his personal space tidy. Great effort, Fraser!
Carson Sun: Carson is consistently polite. He uses his initiative and is always happy to help. Top stuff, Carson. Keep it up!
It is with very humble hearts that we acknowledge the passing of Alan “Budge” Burgess, our School House Patron.
We offer our sincere sympathy to the Burgess family and invite all those who are able to attend Alan’s service to join us at Owaka Community Hall at 1pm on Saturday 19 September to farewell this fine gentleman, who gave so generously to our OBHS community.

Those who supported the OBHS PA Catering Supplies fundraiser: your orders of baking paper and tinfoil have now been delivered and are ready to be collected from the hostel.
Please do not hesitate to contact us with any questions at any time. We welcome your feedback.
