Gateway 2027
Welcome to Gateway Applications for 2027
Applications are through Google Classroom. Applications must be submitted through this format to be considered for this opportunity. Students who did not attend Senior Subject Selection Evening and wish to apply must email [email protected] to receive the link to complete an application.
Record as much detail as possible on your application form. We will, where possible, offer a range of experiences to accommodate students. You need to be able to cope with up to twenty days off timetable to gain work experience and still meet your academic obligations across other subjects. Placement happens one day a week. There is an expectation that you will secure 20 NCEA credits from Unit Standards attached to Gateway, which are spread across NCEA Levels one, two, and three. There is a maximum of 20 Gateway places for 2027.
Applications are considered by a panel. You may be required to attend a meeting with a panel member or Ms. Irving if we need to clarify your choices and suitability. Priority is given to Year 13 students.
The Timeline and Process:
1. Thursday 20th August - Senior Subject Information Evening. Applications go live on a new Google Classroom. The link will be shared that evening.
2. Friday 21st August- Applications advertised through the School Newsletter and Facebook page with the link to the Application form. Ms Irving will speak at Senior Assembly on Tuesday 25th August about Gateway.
3. Friday 4th September -Applications close.
4. Confirmation that your application has been received will be sent out via comments from Google Classroom to your school email.
5. NZQA, Interim report effort grades, attendance data, and vocational choice will be collated by Ms Irving.
6. The Panel of Mr. Hall, Mr. Sullivan, Mr. Harvey, and Ms Irving will meet. Students will be interviewed if required.
7. Monday 20th October onwards -Students will be advised by email of their selection, and alternative pathway opportunities available to them will be offered or declined.
8. Monday 20th October- Ms Irving will contact successful students to realign their timetables to fit Gateway as a subject in 2027. This will be uploaded onto the Kamar timetables by Mr Harvey.
9. Friday 30th October: Provisional letters will be sent for Gateway 2027. (Placement is subject to the outcome of the examination results.) Conditional offers and matching with 2027 employers commence with Mrs Bekker, our Gateway Employer Liaison.
10. Friday 6th November: Consent forms from parents/ caregivers are to be returned to Ms Irving by email for placement matching for 2027. Site visits to approve/ vet new 2027 employers commence.
