Silverpeaks Tramp Builds Resilience and Leadership Skills
Our Year 13 Outdoor Education students recently completed a challenging and rewarding tramp in the Silverpeaks. We were fortunate to strike a good window in the weather, with mild and generally fine conditions throughout the trip.
However, recent rain had taken its toll on the track, leaving sections muddy and slippery. This meant that careful gear selection and the physical preparation many of the boys had been focusing on were absolutely imperative.
The tramp itself was demanding, with a significant amount of vertical gain and long, continuous days on foot. This made reaching each destination especially satisfying and gave students a real sense of achievement.
Working in small groups of three to four, the boys took on leadership roles and developed valuable skills in pacing, navigation, and group management. They communicated effectively, cooperated well, and shared responsibilities—both in terms of decision-making and carrying group gear.
Overall, the experience not only tested their resilience but also strengthened important interpersonal skills, many of which will transfer directly to their upcoming rock climbing unit this term.
