Speech NZ Honours Plus Achievement
Congratulations to Lochie Ing-Aram, who recently achieved an impressive Honours Plus in his Grade 7 Speech NZ examination.
The highest category awarded by Speech NZ is Honours, but on rare occasions an examiner will add a Plus for an examination that is exceptionally polished, exceeds expectations, and demonstrates complete ownership of the material.
Lochie’s programme included a memorised prose extract from the short story Examination Day and two contrasting poems – Telephone Conversation, which recounts a disturbing experience of racial prejudice in London, and Wilfred Owen’s powerful Dulce et Decorum Est. He also delivered a prepared speech presenting an alternative approach to the school lunches issue, completed an impromptu speech on a topic provided by the examiner, and undertook an impromptu reading task.
The examination concluded with an in-depth discussion in which the examiner explored Lochie’s preparation, research, and understanding of his chosen material.
This is a significant achievement that reflects Lochie’s dedication, preparation, and ability to perform under pressure. Congratulations on a well-deserved result.
