Students come and go all day—browsing, borrowing, and renewing their books, checking out and returning laptops, and printing assignments. Classes also come and go during the day; they come in to hear about books, to work in a different environment from their classroom, and to do research and inquiry assignments. Then there are the masses who descend at intervals and lunchtimes. They’re here to play chess and other games, to game on their devices, and to chat and catch up with their friends—though there are a few who try to get homework done or quietly read. I love a library that is busy and hums with life, and this library is certainly that!
Bookclub
We’re going to have a book club! It’ll be informal and chatty. Members of ‘the club’ will get access to new books first. We will also have treats regularly, talk about what we’re reading, and try to convince each other to read the books we love! Sometimes, we’ll even have guest speakers! If you’re keen to join, you can email me at [email protected] or put your name on the sign-up sheet in the library.
New book goodness
Gradually, some new books are making their way onto the shelves. We have a suggestion book on the bench, and both students and staff are asking for books. I’ll do my best to find what they’re looking for if it fits with our collection. Below are some photos of new books in various stages of processing before they’re released into the library.
If you have books at your house that your boys have finished with and are still in good condition, I’d love to take them off your hands. This is especially true for popular titles like Diary of a Wimpy Kid, the CHERUB series, and the like. We can definitely use them here, and I know they’ll be well-loved.
Student Librarians
We have a fantastic team here; lots of boys from across the school lend a helping hand at the library. They come before school and help with shelving and setting the library up for the day, they do duties at intervals and lunchtime, and there are a couple who even come after school. Their help is invaluable, and they are so good-natured and fun to be around. I’m really grateful for their help and their amazing attitude toward this service.
