The power of word of mouth

Marketing Our School for 2027: A message from the Rector

The power of word of mouth

Next week you will begin to see digital advertising for our upcoming Open Evening on 29 July.

Like all schools, we invest time and resources into marketing our programmes, opportunities and the unique experiences available to boys at Otago Boys’ High School.

While digital campaigns, social media advertising and radio promotions all play an important role, the most powerful form of marketing is the cheapest one - word of mouth.

Nothing carries more weight than a recommendation from a parent, student, old boy or friend who can speak firsthand about their experience with our school. When families are making important decisions about their son's education, they naturally seek the views of people they trust.

We are proud of what happens here every day. We are proud of our boys, our staff, our traditions and our commitment to helping young men grow into capable, resilient and successful adults. If your experience of Otago Boys’ High School is a positive one, I encourage you to share that story with others.

As we look towards welcoming the next cohort of boys in 2027, we want Dunedin's boys to choose us. Your support, your advocacy and your willingness to speak positively about our school makes a significant difference.

If you know a family currently considering their secondary school options, please direct them to our website and encourage them to register for our Open Evening on 29 July. It is an excellent opportunity to look around the school, meet our staff and students, and gain a firsthand understanding of what makes Otago Boys’ High School such a special place.

For families who would prefer a more personalised experience, we are taking bookings for individual school tours, again, visit the website to book.

Thank you for helping us tell the Otago Boys’ story and for being ambassadors for our school within our wider community.
