OBHS Athletes Shine

The Otago Secondary Schools Athletic Championships were held at the Caledonian Grounds on Friday and Saturday.

With a team of 54 eager young men some outstanding performances were recorded.

We started on Friday afternoon where Cole Gibbons broke the Otago Pole Vault record for U19 and Luke Moffitt equalled Cole's U16 record.

From there the wins and placings kept rolling in.

Of particular note is the performance of Hamish Moore who had no time for training due to his involvement in other sports and took the 100m and 200m senior sprint crowns - the most sought after of titles. He then worked together with Hadlee Edmunds, Cole Gibbons and Liam Kerr to win the coveted 4x1 relay title.

Top sprinters from the day were: Hamish Moore, Liam Kerr, Hadlee Edmunds, Will Ryan, Noah McDowall, Manaia Lesa and Levi Heffernan.

Notable field performances came from Jamin Millar (Hammer, Javelin, Discus, Shot Put); Clay Dawson (U15 High Jump); Luke Moffitt (U16 Triple Jump, 110m Hurdles, Pole Vault); Noah McDowall (100m sprint, Long Jump and High Jump); Scott Alexander (Senior High Jump and Long Jump), Semisi Taeiloa (Shot Put); Charlie Ottrey(U14 Javelin); Lochlan Still (U16 Javelin);

We now look forward to heading to Christchurch for the South Island event on April 8-10.
