Success at NZSS Adventure Racing Champs
Our senior boys’ team – Henry Hodgson, Sam Hobbs, Robert Lloyd and Flynn Richards – did us proud at the New Zealand Secondary School Adventure Racing Championship, held in Twizel in the last weekend of term.
Fitting in a 12-hour Adventure Race between their exams wouldn’t have been easy, but the boys worked hard and came away with 2nd place in the Senior Boys category, covering 110 km in a time of 11 hours and 50 minutes.
The race started with some windy, wet and cold kayaking on Lake Ruataniwha. Coming out of this paddle mid-pack, the team worked incredibly hard over the following 10 hours, excelling in the rogaine/orienteering and bike sections. The team’s navigation skills set them apart, making them efficient and hard to beat. They learned a lot about racing together during this great performance.
Well done, boys!
